Carrier Estimation for Qam Receivers Using Higher-order Cumulants
نویسنده
چکیده
This paper explores the use of Higher Order Statistics for the recovery of the carrier phase and frequency offset in a QAM receiver operating in an additive Gaussian noise channel. The technique is based on newly established properties of the 3 and 4-order cumulants of the demodulated QAM signal. The resulting method may be thought of as higher-order extension of the second order automatic frequency estimators (AFE) commonly reported in the literature [2][3]. The performance is analyzed and simulated for a QAM system in the presence of channel noise. The results are compared to the autocorrelationbased estimators for various frequency offset values and SNR. The issues related to the bias and variance of the higher order moment estimators are addressed and their effect on the estimation accuracy is analyzed in light of the results.

Cramer-Rao lower bounds for QAM phase and frequency estimation
In this paper, we present the true Cramér–Rao lower bounds (CRLBs) for the estimation of phase offset for common quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM), PSK, and PAM signals in AWGN channels. It is shown that the same analysis also applies to the QAM, PSK, and PAM CRLBs for frequency offset estimation. The ratio of the modulated to the unmodulated CRLBs is derived for all QAM, PSK, and PAM signa...

Measurements of the dual frequency Global Positioning System (GPS) receivers can be used to calculate the electron density and the total electron content (TEC) of the ionosphere layer of the Earth atmosphere. TEC is a key parameter for investigating the ongoing spatial and temporal physical process of the ionosphere. For accurate estimation of TEC from GPS measurements, GPS satellites and GPS r...
متن کاملA Joint Modulation Identification and Frequency Offset Correction Algorithm for Qam Systems
Modulation identification is one of the most challenging steps for blind receivers. If frequency offset is present in the system, this process becomes even more difficult. The proposed method is based on the estimation of the modulation types for quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM) even before correcting the frequency offset. The modulation order is estimated using the probability density inf...
متن کاملAutomatic Modulation Classification of Digital Modulation Signals Based on Gaussian Mixture Model
In this paper, we propose an automatic modulation classification scheme for digitally modulated signals, such as MSK, GMSK, BPSK, QPSK, 8-PSK, 16-QAM, 32-QAM, and 64-QAM. As features which characterize the modulation type, higher order cyclic cumulants up to eighth order of the signal are used. For feature classification, a Gaussian mixture model based algorithm is used. Simulation results are ...
متن کامل15.2 Detection of Multicarrier Modulations using 4th-Order Cumulants
0)2-99-42-65-19 15/06/1999 This paper deals with modulation classification. Our goal is to discriminate single-carrier (SC) modulations from multicarrier (MC) modulations of OFDM type. Because MCmodulations are asymptotically Gaussian, we propose here a detector using the statistical test of G. Giannakis and M. Tsatsanis [9] based on fourth-order cumulants. This test is here adapted to the spec...
